A gray whale and calf surfaced about 20′ off our bow as my Dad and I paddled a tandem kayak back inshore after rockfishing a mile out in Humboldt County along the Lost Coast.

When are the whales at Mendocino? I would love to drive down and see them. I would have peed myself if they were that close. Great video!

Cape Mendocino is where I was, and it’s in Humboldt County! It was April.

That’s the exact same reaction I’d give to seeing massive whales right by me. Unless I was safely on dry land
