How to lose weight at home?

July 11th, 2011 |

Here’s the thing:

I made a pact to lose 20 lbs. this summer (I’m 6′ tall and currently weigh 198 lbs.). Starting mid-June, I began kayaking, swimming, and running for a couple hours a day with my dog, Shippou. She is very high energy, and is truly the reason I started trying to get myself into shape. During workouts with the pup between working full time, I managed to lose almost 8 lbs. in a little over two weeks. :)

… Then the dog blew out her knee. She’s facing 12 weeks of convalescence and no more than 5 minute walks per day beginning after week 6. I’m pretty much tied to the house taking care of my little girl until long after summer is over. :(

What are some intense, cardio exercises that I can do in the house with no additional equipment? Leaving the critter at home while I go out really isn’t an option. I’m already missing swimming in all this hot weather! D:

Any suggestions?

Daily sale website for outdoor equipment and clothes?

July 9th, 2011 |

My brother showed me a website a few years ago that exclusively sold one item each day. These items were usually outdoor equipment like tents, kayaks, hiking boots, bicycles etc etc. But it was only one item each day, like an overstock situation. Any thoughts?

Am i liable for a tenant's injury from beach equipment we have in our rental property?

May 31st, 2011 |

We would like to provide beach activity gear to the tenants of our beach rental home. If a renter injures themselves while using the kayak, snorkel gear, etc that we have provided, are we legally liable?

Does this also depend on whether we can have them sign a waiver during the booking process?

Getting in shape question?

March 23rd, 2011 |

Hi, well i’m a 16 year old girl who is 5′1 and 135. I am going to this intense kayaking camp this summer and I really need to get in shape and loose weight. But I don’t have access to a gym or exercise equipment. Is it possible to be able to get in shape just using at home exercises? Such as running up stairs, work-out videos, ext.

Thoughts on your Hunting Videos?

February 15th, 2011 |

This last year, my brother and I have started an outdoor website that is focused towards hunting, fishing and trapping. www.teamoutdooraddictions.com Eventually we would like to include every aspect of outdoor activities (camping, canoeing/kayaking, metal detecting, paintball, etc.) But this is where we begin. My question is, what do you like/dislike about the current hunting videos that are being offered? Would you like to hear a run-down of equipment used? More narration? What your thoughts are about music during the hunting scene? Things like that. Let me hear what you would like to see more of.
We have a great group of guys on our Pro Staff that are very much family oriented as well as friends. This year we plan to put together a hunting dvd that let’s people see how affordable out of state hunts can be and also share our addiction towards the outdoors. Any input from you is appreciated. If you are interested in what I am saying, or want to share your addictions, please visit our site and join the T.O.A. family. Post some pics.
Thanks Again,

This river is the most direct source of the Amazon River, which makes it the longest river in the world. From Cusco 3300m., we drive across the Andes, down to the Apurimac, at an altitude of 2000m. Upon arrival at the put in, we prepare all the equipment, self-bailing raft and cataraft. After lunch, we raft down to our first campsite. Under the night sky of the southern hemisphere, our staff prepares all meals and sets up the campfire . Most of the rapids are III+ and IV rapids, but also a few IV+ and some class V. At one point, we reach a narrow canyon with an impassable rapid. Here we have to do a 300m portage. Among the wildlife in this remote and isolated canyon, we find river otters, bobcat, foxes, condors, torrent ducks and cormorants etc.
Rafting In Peru DAY 1 :
We meet at 9:00 am. We leave and drive 4 hours through the Andes to the put-in at Huallpachaca bridge, 2000m high in altitude. It will take us a couple hours to prepare all the equipment, rafts, cargo raft, coolers, and provide your helmets, lifejackets, wet suits etc. After lunch we will give you a safety talk. We will put emphasis on training all the participants, in how to get back into the raft, flipping the raft, swimming a rapid etc.
You will be floating as a training day for 2 or 3 hours, running class II and III rapids. We campout in a narrow gorge with spectacular canyon walls . Here the guides will prepare dinner . (L+D).

Men: Is it normal for a guy with a short bed truck to think he has to purchase a?

October 25th, 2010 |

small vehicle and put racks on top to carry racks and things on top? My boyfriend says he has to purchase a small car with racks on top because there is no way that he can fit a 20ft ladder and all the long kayaks he uses and other things. I told him he is not a construction worker or a roofer. He doesn’t need that type od equipment but he refuses to listen. I said that I hardly ever see small trucks or cars with racks and he said that is because the people always have to ask other men with larger trucks to carry stuff for them?

Athiest, if miracles don't happen, then explain this:?

October 2nd, 2010 |

Two boys had lost their way while on a Christian Camping vacation. The found themselves deep in the woods and they didn’t know which way was they way back to camp. So, they prayed, and prayed, and finally the boy felt like they should go in a certain direction. They ran and one of them tripped and fell on a log that pierced his abdomen. He was bleeding internally. They didn’t know what to do, so the boy who was not injured prayed and felt like god wanted him to go in a certain direction. So he ran, and what he found was that they had actually gone in the wrong direction. He found himself by the grace of god next to a river and thanks be to god two kayaking doctors were coming down the river at the exact time. So, he called them over and the doctors, without any medical equipment, followed the boy to the injured boy in the forest. Unfortunately, they couldn’t do anything to save him. He had bled out and there was nothing they could have done anyway. After the helicopter Medevac got there, they air lifted the dead boy and his friend out of the forest.

Windsurfing, Kitesurfing, and Kayaking?

September 30th, 2010 |

I’m actually starting to get an itch for extreme water sports (no fishing lol) and I’ve ran into Windsurfing, Kitesurfing, Wakeboarding, and Kayaking. Just so you know where I am to start, I’m in South Florida Miami where the winds usually dont blow very much (but from the vids on Youtube, people have managed to do the above) anyway, I was woundering what’s the best one to get into for the best price and what might I be paying for any? From what I’ve read,
Kite: $$$ = Kite , $ = Board
Wind: $ = Sail , $$$ = Board
and I’ve seen Windsurfing packages for like 00 and Kitesurfing kites for like 0 no board! Can I get into anyone of these with like 00 and build on what I have using peices of the old equipment? Is there anything cheaper? Or should I stick with Kayaking (0 for the one I’m looking at)?

Do people who go whitewater kayaking need a license or certificate?

September 27th, 2010 |

What if they were to give tours? Would they need any sort of licensing then?

Can you tell me of any authorities, organizations, or associations on the matter? Provide links.

How about any laws? Not that I wouldn’t want to go without protective equipment, but is one required by law to wear a life-jacket and helmet? What else?
I suppose the laws, if there are any, might differ between whitewater rafting and kayaking, so do comment and that as well, if you could.
Oh yeah, just to make sure, when I say kayaking, I mean whitewater kayaking.

Back of knee pain (extended answer)?

September 21st, 2010 |

I came back from a 12 day school camp (Hiking 25kms, Kayaking 10kms, rowing 10 kms). The camp was no walk in the park, as I had immense weight on the waist with a big backpack with my clothes, sleeping bag and cooking utensils and food/ equipment. All in all, about a 12kgs in total I had to hike across a range with for days on end. If food counts as part of a solution, then heres one. I had powdered milk with breakfast for most days. No normal milk for the whole camp
I got back yesterday from the camp, and ever since I got home, the joints at the back of my knees have been hurting slightly which is annoying and causes me to walk weirdly. I tried doing some minor stretches for it, but it hasn’t really helped.

Another question also, which is worrying me. On camp, we could not take our shoes off, so I was in shoes the whole camp. when I got back, and took it off I noticed my big toe on the left foot was numb, but only the tip of it. It is still numb now, and I am really worried because I may have broken a nerve somehow…?

A special thanks to everyone who answers.

Suggest a coming-of-age adventure I can share with my teen son (near Northern Colorado?)?

September 11th, 2010 |

My son just turned 13, and unlike most cultures, here in America we don’t typically celebrate coming-of-age / adulthood / manhood.

So I’d like he and I to go on an "adventure" of sorts: something difficult and/or a bit painful since doing tough things that are uncomfortable is a part of being a man.

So far I have thought of a two-day hike up in the mountains (with at least one over-night), or going on a dog sledding tour in the winter, or even skydiving or kayaking.

Keep in mind: (1) We live in Northern Colorado, so if we can do it locally, that’s better too; (2) I’m not much of an outdoorsman, so recommendations for guides and/or guidebooks or checklists would be nice as well; (3) Willing to spend some $$$ on equipment, but not big $$$; (4) We’re in good condition–just ran a 5k on July 4th

Thanks!

How can I survive with my dad?

September 7th, 2010 |

My dad is a big time idiotic nutcase. He’s a successful guy, college graduate and all that but I honest to God think he’s mental. He’s a scoutmaster so nearly all of his money goes toward scout equipment and activities. I have a sister who’s in college and if he spent half the money he spends on scout equipment on her, she would be ok. Its the same with me and the rest of my family. he thinks he can do whatever he wants. whenever anyone wants to talk, he just says "Not now. Later." When my mom tries to talk to him, he says he’s too busy. When asked when he’ll have the time to talk, he says "when I’m done" which is never because he’s always doing another project that only he is interested in. He has also totalled our house. He took all the doors off the rooms and replaced them with pull-up bars because he says it’ll help him and us stay in shape. He’s got a treadmill in our living room! it might be ok except it looks like crap. its about 20 years old, rusty, dusty, stained, the stuff’s coming off the handle. it always leaves dirt on the floor too. he’s got a solar heater in our living room too. we never use the damn thing and will never have to either. it’s also got paint peeling, duck tape holdin the panels together and it looks like shit. our backyard is full of canoes and kayaks for his scouts. he keeps a big, white trailer back there too. he has a big, red van/bus that i am forced to ride to skool in because he wont let me drive even though i got a license. it hasnt been cleaned in years and its got only hell knows what in it. i dont dare bring any friends or girlfriends over to the house but it doesnt matter because he’d never let me anyway. he said i cant have a girlfriend because he didnt. our whole family suffers because of him. please help

Camping on an island.?

September 2nd, 2010 |

Hi, my name is Josh I’m thirteen and this coming up weekend me and a friend are going to go camping on a very small island out on a pond. We are leaving with two kayaks one of which is a two person one with a lot of extra room in it. My question to you what do you think we should bring other than say tent, food, fire source, blankets/pillows, fishing equipment, two fold chairs, water/bottles. This alone will take up quite a bit of room in the kayaks and backpacks. But it still feels like I’m missing something major. (yes im bringing a phone for an emergency).

Oh i just remembered we dont have to take all the stuff in one trip :P anyways that still wasn’t really my question so yeah.

Canyonlands National Park - anyone ever been canoeing or kayaking?

August 25th, 2010 |

I’m planning on going out west this summer, and this is one of the things I want to do. Has anyone ever been canoeing or kayaking in this area before? Would you mind sharing your experiences? Any hints, suggestions before I go this coming summer? How long did you go? Where did you rent your equipment, or did you bring your own?

For now I’m more interested in just a relaxing trip instead of any rapids! Here’s a link:

Can you help me with my kayaking in Peru?

August 24th, 2010 |

My sister asked a question for me, I am using her account I don’t use this site. I got the Huaraz replies which were very nice, thank you guys you were great.

My second question was regarding white water kayaking in Peru. Could you help me out? this is a special interest trip we would like it to be level 6+ which is high difficulty. I am traveling with some friends, we are experienced kayakers we don’t need to hire equipment. We are thinking a good area is along the full flow of the Amazon River, a trip like J. Cousteau once did. Starting in the Apurimac River and ending the trip in Manaus Brazil. Of course we would need some where we may get food & supplies. We’d like to stay with native communities we are physicians, we are taking medical aid & our equipment. Once in large cities a hotel would be great. When going from Iquitos to Manaus we would love to stay in jungle lodges. Some links & information if you please?

Thanks a lot.
I was leaving out the most important matter, we would very much like to hire a guide for the whole trip. Thanks again.
Forgetting again: We have done the Yangtze, Mekong, Okobongo, Nile & Congo Rivers we are used to rough areas.

Camping/Hiking vs. Kayaking/Canoeing Essay (10 pts!!!)?

August 21st, 2010 |

Hello. I’m writing a comparison / contrast essay on Camping/Hiking vs. Kayaking/Canoeing, and I need some more ideas to fill up my paper. What I’m thinking of talking about are: differences in equipment, practically, and the actual actions of each, and a similarity in the sense of achievement that comes from getting yourself from one place to another in hiking/kayaking/canoeing. I was going to put in my personal experiences in each, but I’m not sure if comparison/contrast essays are supposed to have that kind of thing. Any additional ideas for the content of the paper would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!!

Whitewater kayaking question?

August 20th, 2010 |

I live a few miles from a river called Fish Creek (in NY) and it is known for some of the best/most challenging whitewater in the state. The upper part has several class 3+, a few class 4 rapids, one class 5 and one class 6. Its intense. There is a dam however that kind of slows the river down because the highest level rapid after the dam is a class 3+. This is where we would start.

I have never WHITEWATER KAYAKED before. I have been Whitewater rafting a couple times and I go kayaking/canoeing all the time just nothing higher than class 2 (technically making it whitewater). I am very physically fit and I love challenges, its why I get up in the morning.

I own an Old Town Otter (bottom of the line closed-cockpit) and it doesnt even have foot braces.
WILL I BE ABLE TO HANDLE CLASS 2-3+ RAPIDS WITH THIS CRAFT?

I am not worried about myself, I just dont want to try something with equipment that isnt suitable. I know they make special whitewater kayaks that cost thousands, with one of those I wouldnt hesitate to try any level rapid.

Will my otter make it? Why, why not?

Any other suggestions/advice greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Im not taking any advice from a Dutchmen….

Saying we can't reproduce the pyramids is serious BS…anyone agree?

August 15th, 2010 |

ok so one guy wrote a book and said we can’t reproduce the pyramids with modern day technology. That is the biggest bull sh*t if i ever heard it. they say stuff like "u can’t fit paper between the rock"… well i should hope not seeing as they are sitting right on top of another. We have laser prescision cutting to make those rocks fit perfectly. we could use the finest of laser surveying equipment and gps to make every rock perfectly in place. Also they claim that it’s impossible to get the materials there but i have personally seen a 5 ton rock floated on a average sized kayak made of thatch. Bigger rafts could hold exponentially more. they say we can’t reproduce the pyramids…that is seriously the dumbest thing ive ever heard…anyone agree or am i just crazy? if not please give me evidence why we couldn’t build the pyramids with modern day technology

How to explain to 3 kids of different ages, about my pregnancy?

August 13th, 2010 |

Hello. I found out last week, that I am pregnant. I am 6 weeks. We haven’t told our kids, family and friends yet. We want to tell our kids first. Starting tomorrow, each child of ours will have their own special day. We need suggestions on how to say it and when to say it. Here is a little info:

9 year old girl. Her special day is getting a new bike and going biking, lunch at her favorite
restaurant and a surprise, (well two). A trip to the pet store to get a little animal (gerbil, hamster, fish, etc) and maybe a little buddy, too.

3 year old girl. Her special day is a trip to the bouncing place. Her surprise is a trip to our local doll shop, where they sell stuffed animals, baby dolls, etc. She can choose 3 things with accessories. She will choose a restaurant she wants to eat at.

1 year old boy. His special day is a trip to the park. (Best thing ever, for him.) There is a wagon ride, lots of equipment, a sand box, icecream stands, a lake with fish and ducks, another lake you can canoe in and kayak in, a petting zoo, a track you can run on, tons of sport fields. He will do it all. His surprise is a new toy from toys r us and a beta fish.

I keep it simple. Please help.

Stupid idea or no, you decide…?

August 12th, 2010 |

Ok, so I answered a question the other day that got my mind working (Run for cover!!) I’ve tossed this idea around in my brain from time to time for the past few years.

My area is chock-full of fishing guides with their fancy boats and all their equipment and such. 0 for a full day is a decent price (I understand gas ain’t cheap and time is money, don’t get me wrong) I believe we even have a few kayak guides, but anyway, I do have a point here…

All the charters around are flats fishing. Average water depth in my "puddle" is 6 and a half feet, channel was dredged to 12 feet in the 50’s, and there’s places you can wadefish right out to the channel, so that gives an idea of what we’re looking at.

Wadefishing guide. Think about it… discount rates for state residents (because the state doesn’t require you to have a licence when wadefishing in up to 4 feet of water if you’re a resident) Charge a reasonable rate, include sunscreen, bug repellent, etc, maybe even cheap aqua-shoes (don’t need waders around here…) Maybe eventually work something out with the local kayak rental place…

What do you guys think? Am I up too late tonight and should I just go to sleep already or could this actually work?
Yeah, the whole "Once I’ve shown someone a few of my spots, they’ll know them forever" is one of the things that kinda discourages me. And how do I keep locals away? Oh, I need proof of residency before I can take you out… just don’t really think it would fly. I think the main thing as mentioned is to market the experience… the whole shore-lunch thing is dead on, who could resist that?

Anyway, I wouldn’t be doing it for another couple years or so anyway (Till the little one’s either old enough to help out or in school most likely) so that’s plenty of time to figure it all out if there’s any figuring to do… hate to give out my spots to locals… I know how they are sometimes…
Dumdum, you do have a point, but you’ve also got to remember that really there are two reasons tourists come to my town… the Space center (mostly for shuttle launches) and the wildlife refuge, which is the most diverse in the country… 2008’s Birding Festival brought in 3,883 participants… the only thing other than space we have is ecotourism… people come here to walk, so why not wade as well? *shrug* at least that’s what gives me hope that it might just work if it doesn’t fail miserably…
Oh, and the hub for the St. John’s to Sea Loop (big new trail that’s in the works) will be just north of my town too… we’re talking ecofreaks, and I’m willing to bet that they’re not all bunny-huggers, either.
bassplayer…

and they worry me because? ; )

Yes, something to look out for, I’ll admit, but considering I know people there will be no problem alligators where I’d be going.

Dreamweaver head tag in editable region & swf file problems?

August 10th, 2010 |

I have created a template to use for a website. In some of the pages, I want to add some spry panels and widgets. However, when I try, I get a pop up message telling me that the head tag is in a locked region and that to insert the content I have to unlock it.

Also, when I try to enter an swf file on a page, I get an error telling me that while executing objectTag in Flash.htm, a JavaScript error occured.

What can I do?

Below is the code of the template page:

Thanks

Kayak Kottage charges to rent a kayak plus per hour for lessons. Power Paddles charges for rentals plus per hour for lessons. For what number of hours is the cost of equipment and lessons the same for each company?

Key West Vacation Rentals

August 4th, 2010 |

I’m looking for a vacation rental that sleeps 7 people and has all equipment included such as kayaks, fishing stuff, snorkeling gear, etc. I would like for it to have it’s own dock, so we can swim in our own water, as well as go to the beach too.
Thanks.
